Correct Certification — No Shortcuts

Haven Electrical issue electrical installation certificates for all commercial and residential electrical work carried out by our team across Cork City and County. Under Irish electrical regulations, all fixed electrical installation work must be carried out by a RECI-registered electrical contractor and a certificate issued on completion. The certificate confirms the installation has been designed, constructed, inspected, and tested in accordance with the National Rules for Electrical Installations (IS 10101). Without a valid certificate, you cannot satisfy building control, get building insurance, or sell the property. We issue certificates promptly on completion of all our work — you’re never waiting for paperwork.

Why Cork Customers Choose Haven Electrical

Always Certify Our Work

Every piece of electrical work we carry out — large or small, commercial or residential — is certified on completion. This is not negotiable.

RECI and Safe Electric

We are registered with both RECI (for commercial and domestic works) and Safe Electric (for domestic works). These are the two certifying bodies recognised under Irish regulations.

Fast Paperwork Turnaround

Certificates are issued within days of completion, not weeks. If you’re under pressure for a property transaction or building control sign-off, we’ll prioritise.

No Unregistered Work

We won’t carry out electrical work without certifying it. If you ask us to do work “off the books” without a certificate, we’ll politely decline. It’s not worth the risk to you or us.

Electrical Installation Certification FAQs

Yes — under the Safety, Health and Welfare at Work (General Application) Regulations and the associated electrical regulations, all electrical installation work on fixed wiring must be carried out by a RECI-registered electrical contractor and certified. For domestic work, Safe Electric notification is additionally required. A certificate is a legal requirement, not optional documentation. Uncertified electrical work is illegal, unsafe, and will affect your building insurance and ability to sell the property.
RECI (Register of Electrical Contractors of Ireland) is the statutory register for electrical contractors for both commercial and domestic work. Safe Electric is the electrical safety registration scheme administered by the Electro-Technical Council of Ireland (ETCI) specifically for domestic electrical works. For residential electrical work, both RECI and Safe Electric registration is required. For commercial work, RECI registration is the primary requirement. Haven Electrical is registered with both.
Yes — even minor electrical work on fixed wiring (adding a socket, extending a circuit, fitting a new lighting point) requires a Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate if it is an addition or alteration to an existing installation. The only electrical work that doesn’t require certification is like-for-like replacement of accessories (replacing a socket faceplate with the same type, for example). If there is any doubt, we certify the work.
You can attempt to, but it will likely cause problems. Solicitors acting for buyers routinely require electrical installation certificates for any work carried out on the property. An outstanding planning condition, a new consumer unit, a new extension, or any rewiring work will all require certificates. If you cannot produce them, the sale may be delayed while the work is inspected and certified retrospectively — a more expensive and complex process than certifying it correctly at the time.
Only if we carry out a full inspection and test of the installation and can confirm it complies with IS 10101. We cannot certify work we haven’t inspected and tested ourselves. If the previous work is compliant, we can issue an EICR (Electrical Installation Condition Report) confirming its satisfactory condition — which in some contexts serves a similar purpose to a completion certificate. If the work is not compliant, we can carry out the necessary remedial works and then certify the complete installation.
An Electrical Installation Certificate (EIC) doesn’t expire in the sense of ceasing to be valid. It is a record of the state of the installation at the time of installation and testing. However, electrical installations deteriorate over time, and an EICR (condition report) is recommended every 5 years for commercial premises and every 10 years or on change of occupancy for domestic properties. For insurance and property transaction purposes, a recent EICR may be required in addition to the original installation certificate.
A Minor Electrical Installation Works Certificate (MEIWC) is used for additions or alterations to an existing installation — for example, adding circuits to an existing consumer unit, extending a ring final circuit, or adding a spur. It confirms that the new work has been inspected and tested and that the existing installation on to which it has been connected has been checked for its suitability to support the addition.
Yes — we understand that property transactions are time-sensitive. If you need electrical work carried out and certified quickly for a completion deadline, contact us and explain the situation. We can typically prioritise the work and issue the certificate within a day or two of completion. Call 021 203 2045 directly for urgent certification requirements.
