New Build Electrical Installation FAQs

First fix is everything done before plastering — running cables, fitting back boxes, and positioning the consumer unit. Second fix is everything after plastering — connecting sockets, switches, light fittings, and final testing. Both phases are essential and we handle the full process from start to finish.
First fix typically takes 2–5 days depending on the size of the build. Second fix is usually 2–4 days. We work around your build programme and will confirm timelines with you and your builder before we start.
Yes — we work alongside builders, developers, and self-builders across Cork City and County. We’re used to fitting into a build programme and communicating directly with site managers and contractors. Relationships are everything on a building site and we take that seriously.
We issue a full Safe Electric certificate and inspection and test report on completion of the electrical works. These documents are required for planning sign-off and are needed by your solicitor when you register or sell the property. We’re both Safe Electric and RECI registered.
Yes — we can provision for an EV charger during first fix at minimal extra cost, even if you don’t need the charger immediately. Running the cable and trunking during the build is far cheaper than retrofitting later. When you’re ready for the charger, it’s a simple second-stage connection.
Yes, we can run Cat6 data cabling, multi-room audio wiring, and provision for smart home systems during first fix. Planning this at the build stage is far easier and cheaper than adding it after plastering. Let us know what systems you’re considering and we’ll plan the cabling accordingly.
We recommend a fully specified dual RCD or RCBO consumer unit from a reputable manufacturer — typically Hager, Schneider, or similar. The right unit depends on your circuit count and any specialist circuits required. We’ll spec the correct unit as part of the quote.
Yes — Haven Electrical are RECI registered. RECI is the Register of Electrical Contractors of Ireland, the voluntary accreditation body for electrical contractors. Our registration provides you with an additional layer of assurance that our work meets the required standard.
