Cork’s Trusted Machinery Electrical Specialists

Haven Electrical carry out electrical connections for new and relocated machinery across Cork industrial and commercial premises. When a new CNC machine arrives, a production line is reconfigured, or a food processing plant installs new equipment, the electrical connection has to be done correctly — right supply size, correct isolator, proper earthing, right cable type for the environment. We work with plant managers, machinery suppliers, and main contractors across Cork to connect and commission machinery quickly and correctly. All machinery electrical work is RECI certified.

Machinery Electrical Installation FAQs

Yes — most industrial machinery arrives without a plug or with a continental Schuko or commando plug not compatible with Irish supply. We assess the machine’s electrical specification, size the correct supply circuit, and hard-wire the machine to a dedicated isolator. We check the phase sequence, set the protection relays to the correct settings for the machine’s rated current, and commission the machine before handover.
For straightforward machinery connections where the supply circuit is already in place, we can typically complete the connection and commissioning in a few hours. For new supply circuits that need to be run from a distribution board, lead time depends on cable routing and the scale of the installation. We advise on lead times during the quotation process. For urgent machinery commissioning, we’ll prioritise where we can.
The most useful information is the machine’s electrical nameplate or installation manual — this shows the supply voltage (usually 400V three-phase), the rated current (in amps), the supply connection type, and any special requirements like a dedicated earth or phase sequence sensitivity. If you can send us this before the site visit, we can often pre-size and prepare the supply circuit to be ready for the machine’s arrival.
Yes — machinery relocation is a common job. We disconnect the machine from the existing supply, make the supply safe, re-route the supply cable to the new position (or run a new circuit from the nearest suitable distribution point), and reconnect and recommission the machine. If the machine is moving to a different area of the factory with a different distribution board, we assess whether the existing cable can be reused or whether a new run is needed.
Yes — under Irish regulations, all electrical work must be carried out by a RECI-registered electrical contractor and certified. For machinery installations, this typically means an electrical installation certificate for the supply circuit and a record of the settings used for protection devices. This documentation is important for insurance, CE marking compliance, and health and safety audits.
Yes — setting motor protection relays correctly is part of every machinery connection we carry out. The thermal overload relay must be set to the machine motor’s rated current (shown on the motor nameplate), not just the circuit breaker rating. Incorrect overload settings either fail to protect the motor from overheating or cause nuisance trips. We use calibrated test equipment to verify protection relay operation before commissioning.
We can carry out cable preparation and containment work in live factory areas. All work on electrical panels and connections to live distribution equipment requires a planned isolation. We coordinate planned isolations with your production schedule to minimise impact. We will not attempt to work on live panels without isolation — safe isolation is non-negotiable.
Earth faults and commissioning trips are not uncommon with new machinery. We investigate the fault systematically — checking the machine’s internal wiring, the earth continuity of the supply circuit, and the protection device settings. For OEM-supplied machines with internal faults, we document the fault and liaise with the machinery supplier’s commissioning team. We don’t just reset breakers and hope for the best.
