Residential
First, check if your neighbours are affected as it might be a wider outage. If it's just your home, check the fuse board for tripped switches. If it keeps tripping, call us and we'll come to investigate and get you back up and running in no time. Don't keep resetting a tripping breaker — it's trying to tell you something.
Yes. EV chargers must be installed by a qualified electrician to ensure safe wiring, correct power supply and compliance with Irish regulations. We can install your charger and issue the necessary compliance certificate, so you know everything is done correctly from the start.
For most homes, a periodic inspection every 10 years is recommended, or every 5 years if you're renting. Older properties or those with frequent electrical issues may need more frequent checks. If you're buying a property, an inspection before purchase is always a good idea.
If your fuse board still uses rewireable fuses, it's outdated and should be upgraded. A modern consumer unit with RCD protection is safer and more efficient, and offers better protection against electrical faults. Signs you may need an upgrade include frequent tripping, scorch marks, or if you're adding a new appliance like an EV charger or electric shower.
Yes. We can add sockets or switches anywhere inside or outside your house. It's always safer and tidier than relying on extension leads or multi-adapters, which can overload circuits. We'll route cabling neatly and leave minimal disruption.
Commercial
We assess the job, prepare a detailed quote and run it past the client before any work starts. Once approved, we schedule and carry out the work. No hidden costs — every aspect is agreed upfront so there are no surprises at the end.
Repeated tripping usually means an overloaded circuit or a fault somewhere on the system. Resetting the breaker may work temporarily, but if it happens again, stop and call us. We'll carry out a full investigation to identify the root cause rather than just treating the symptom.
Yes. We provide scheduled inspections and testing and can carry out repairs to keep your electrics safe and reduce downtime. Contracts are tailored to each site's needs and give you peace of mind that your electrical systems are regularly maintained by Safe Electric registered professionals.
Yes. We've installed LED lighting and carried out energy-efficient upgrades for businesses across Cork. LED upgrades typically pay for themselves quickly through reduced electricity bills, and we can advise on the most cost-effective approach for your premises.
Absolutely. We provide full electrical installation certificates, periodic inspection reports and testing documents to keep your premises compliant with insurers, landlords and safety regulations. All our certification work is completed to the highest standard by RECI registered electricians.
Testing & Certification
A periodic inspection is a thorough assessment of your electrical installation to check it's safe and meets current standards. It's recommended every 10 years for owner-occupied homes, every 5 years for rental properties, and more frequently for commercial and industrial premises. Landlords are legally required to have one carried out.
An electrical safety certificate (Completion Certificate or Periodic Inspection Report) confirms that the electrical installation has been inspected and tested to current Irish standards. It's required for property sales, rental compliance, insurance purposes and any new electrical work. We can issue the relevant certificate after inspection or on completion of works.
Yes — solicitors and buyers' surveyors often request an up-to-date electrical safety certificate as part of a property sale. We can carry out a full inspection and issue the required documentation quickly. Getting this done early avoids delays in the conveyancing process.
Most fault-finding visits take between 1–3 hours depending on the complexity of the issue. Simple faults — like a faulty socket or tripping circuit — are usually resolved in the same visit. More complex intermittent faults may require additional investigation or testing equipment. We'll always explain what we've found and what's needed to fix it.
